オープンソースのクラウド構築ツールキット、「OpenNebula」登場 [ #opencloudjp ]

OpenNebula Projectが、OpenNebulaの最新安定版「OpenNebula 3.4」を公開した。OpenNebulaは、クラウド基盤やエンタープライズ向けのデーターセンタの構築及び管理が行える業界標準のソリューションを開発することを目的にしているオープンソースのプロジェクト。2005年に発足し、2008年より定期的にOpenNebulaをリリースしている。

The OpenNebula Projectは1月17日、「OpenNebula 3.2」（開発コード「Red Spider」）をリリースした。OpenNebulaはVMwareやXen、KVMといった仮想化技術をサポートするオープンソースのクラウドコンピューティング管理ツール。　OpenNebulaではVMwareやXen、KVMなどの仮想化技術を用いたプライベートクラウド環境の構築/管理が可能。また、プライベートクラウドとパブリッククラウドを組み合わせた「ハイブリッドクラウド」の構築もサポート、複雑かつさまざまなハードウェア/ソフトウェアが混在する環境で利用できるのが特徴となる。

Nebula Seeks to Remake Cloud Infrastructure With Commodity Hardware Appliance

In the era of big data, when the technology spread across businesses in all industries collects and produces ever-increasing volumes of information, sophisticated storage and analytic capabilities are proving to be a competitive differentiator. After all, what good is an ocean of data if the firm doesn’t have the ability to store and process it?  To many observers, the answer is in the cloud. But within the rather broad framework of cloud computing, businesses face an array of obstacles. For the risk-averse, the public cloud model might not be a good fit. Then again, proprietary offerings from vendors like Microsoft or EMC can be costly and complex to deploy, and they can deliver more features than the client actually needs or wants. In addition, many firms simply aren’t in the position to build their own cloud configuration in-house.

Nebula Wants To Be iPhone Of Data Center

Chris Kemp resigned as chief technology officer at NASA on March 14 and launched Nebula, a company that will supply a new class of product, a controller for commodity cloud servers in the enterprise. After announcing the new company Wednesday, Kemp spoke with InformationWeek Editor at Large Charles Babcock about what will go into Nebula’s appliance, what he thought of Vivek Kundra’s resignation as federal CIO, and what his own experience at NASA was like. Kemp is CEO of Nebula and says its sole goal is to produce a product that manages sets of commodity servers as a private cloud.

NASAの前CTOがベンチャー設立、巨大プライベートクラウドをコモディティに

米Nebulaは27日、オープンソースソフトウェアとオープンソースハードウェアを使用し、プライベートクラウドの導入バリアーを大幅に引き下げ、一種のコモディティにするためのハードウェアアプライアンスの開発計画を発表した。このアプライアンスには、NASAなどで使用されているオープンソースクラウドプラットフォーム「OpenStack」や、米Facebookが高効率かつ安価なデータセンターを構築するために開始したオープンソースハードウェアプロジェクト「Open Compute」を採用する。
